vintage sheet quilt

Fifty-six 10.5" vintage sheet squares were cut yonks ago and were awaiting my be-botheredness and free time. This week, being school holidays, I found time to decide on the arrangement above and sew up the strips.

...... and before I knew it the top was finished! It reminded me that the sewing up stage is a super quick one, its the effort that goes into the cutting which takes the most time. Because it will be a picnic blanket I'm going to try and find a hard waring but thin batting, then bind it in whatever I have in my fabric collection to save money. Perhaps hot orange/pink .....?

  3. If you want it to be tough, you might think about thrifting a wool blacket to use as batting. I have a few vintage quilts that use blankets instead of batting, and they've held up very well.

Additionally, I wanted to let you know you're nominated for a One Lovely Blog Award-- you can see more at http://a-red-robin.blogspot.com/2010/10/expeditions-and-awards.html

  4. Lovely! I have half made a picnic blanket with all my fat quarters from the fat quarter swap too. And now that we're finally getting some picnic weather I might try and finish it.

  5. Very lovely! Yes, I think hot orange/pink binding would make the perfect picnic blanket edge! Won't it look summery against green grass?
